Letter Writing initiative Spreading awareness about the censorship Status = Ongoing

#TorrentialDownpour is focused on bringing awareness of poor translations and/or censorship within localization of video games and anime. It is aimed towards informing consumers, publisher, and Japanese owners/developers of mishandling/alteration of titles.

History

The release of Fire Emblem Fates was heavily altered from its original script, censored, and even had large mechanics removed. Anons were to email Nintendo of Japan regarding Fates as well as informing consumers by sharing comparison images between the localized and original versions.

---

Write letters to Nintendo of Japan, explaining why you are importing the Japanese version of Fire Emblem Fates, instead of buying the localized American version, or buying the game(s) used. [1] [2]

Informed and teach Japanese developer teams in the West and explain how the sjws, such as those found within 8-4 and Denuvo, ruin their games and tell them to use better teams, such as Xseed for example. [3] [4]

Teach and informed people in a rational manner about the censorship going down in localization (Tip: Try not to lose your pasta).

Participation

Note: Get someone who is very fluent with Japanese to help with the letters. There's a very dedicated and traditional method of letter writing in Japanese.

Be succinct, formal, and polite in how you should frame your message. [5]

1. Armed yourself with information. Understand the numerous things that have been done tot eh games in question. The Fire Emblem Wiki now has every localized Support dialogue and there is even a pastebin with corresponding supports translated from the original Japanese. Plus, there are tumblr blogs and youtube links that show the stark differences. Again, keep tabs on it.

2. Draft your grievances. Not thust the collective, but what put you off, personally, of buying the English version of these games. Don't hold back. The key point here is that this is a DRAFT and not your letter's final form. Once your draft written, post it on the Nichegamer thread discussing Operation: Torrential Downpour, so that others can advise on pairing it down, getting it streamlined, and ready for translations.

3. Proof of Purchase. THIS IS ACTUALLY SUPER IMPORTANT. The last thing we want is to be dismissed out of hand as just toothless complaining. Did you buy an import of Fire Emblem Fates? Did you preorder? Did you cancel it? Did you BUY it and are unsatisfied? Print out a copy of the invoice or copy the receipt that shows you are a paying customer of Nintendo. Take a phone picture of an order page or cancellation of your order and print that. Include some form of the proof of purchase, or proven intent to purchase, in the letter.

4. Translation. This is the point where things get a bit sticky. This is the part where it has to be emphasized POLITENESS and FORMALITY have to take precedence when conveying your message. There are some beginner guides linked that give a good idea.

Rule of thumb, do not worry about filling pages upon pages of work. Just like at a restaurant, your complain needs to be succinct, formal, and conveyed so the staff understands why you are unhappy.

5. Mailing. Stamps and postage are cheap. At most, it's going to be $5 for a letter with certified, sign on delivery options. There also IS a formal way to note the send and return addresses and they'lll be gone over.

Tips

Ask help from a pro-Gamergator, like DDD-kun and mombot, concerning the translations.

Non-Fire Emblem Fates TD Projects

There are other fanbases and video games that need saving, even though Fire Emblem: Fates wasn't fortunate.

  • NieR: Automata
  • Star Ocean
  • Any future Nintendo, Sony, and games made by Japanese companies.
