He was the creator of the Google Group GameJournoPros, a private mailing list for video game journalists that has fueled accusations of corruption, collusion, and narrative framing occurring in the American video game journalism industry.
Creation of GameJournoPros
Orland created GameJournoPros on August 31, 2010, stating that it was inspired by the original JournoList, a private mailing list among left-leaning journalists that closed in 2010 upon its controversial reveal.
Role in GamerGate
On August 19, 2014, Orland sent an e-mail regarding the Zoe Quinn Scandal to fellow members of GameJournoPros. In it, he proposed the idea of sending Zoe Quinn words of support and considered giving her game, Depression Quest, more attention in response to the scandal. However, his ideas, as well as a proposal to send Quinn a group letter of support, were opposed by most responders of the e-mails and thus never came to fruition.
