  1. GamerGate is a rebellion against a totalitarian ideology (#GamerGate er et oppgjør med en totalitær ideologi)

An opinion piece which responds to the incoherent rant by the editorial, from a master student in Sociology. He thoroughly rebuts the points made in the article he's responding to, mentioning that GamerGate is a backlash against a totalitarian ideology, citing many sources. Suffice to say a massive redpill, to much gratitude if you read the comments.

Fenjima Manrique got death threats written with poo on her door (Fenjima Manrique fikk drapstrussel skrevet i bæsj på døren)

An isolated incident where a woman who engaged in discussions about GamerGate ended up getting "Die" written in feces on her door. It remains neutral on GamerGate saying some claim it's about unethical games journalism while others claim it's about women in the industry. The woman in question says there are three reasons this "hatred against women" exists: "They" believe there are women quota and that makes them angry, "Male dominated" industry, and "angry" people who don't like "female critique". She also claims to have been hacked and had private images uploaded to 4chan. Luckily, there's a section with the viewpoint of the master student in Sociology.

Gamergate: Angry, young men (Gamergate: Sinte, unge menn)

An editorial by a games reviewer who calls GamerGate right out of the bat "an echo-chamber for frustrated, reactionary and conservative players" before immediately mentioning Literally Who. The subtitles themselves summarizes this piece: "From misogyny to press ethics", "A slew of contradictions", "A lapskaus of reactionary males" (lapskaus is a traditional Norwegian dish).

Gender, lies and video games (Kjøn, løgn og videospel)

The article seems critical of both sides and refers to GamerGate as "Males-activism" with conservative roots and connections with Mens-Rights-Activists. Thankfully, it's not merciful towards the radical feminist side either, tearing apart criticism raised against video games.

Gender wars divides the gaming world (Kjønnskrig splitter dataspillverdenen)

Original

News article referring to the events as a "gender war" where women (guess who) are chased from their homes. It reads somewhat neutral though.

Online female players pretend they are men (Kvinnelige nettspillere later som de er menn)

Original

Translation

Article starts with the premise that online gamers who are women pretend to be men in order to avoid getting harassed, referencing and article called “Bug or feature?” Seksuell trakassering i online dataspill. It also mentions that 50% of gamers are women without making any distinction between casual and hardcore. It's asserted that harassment in games translate to harassment in real life with mentions of isolated incidents. As for GamerGate, it's mentioned as a "hate campaign" targeting women like Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn, forcing them to leave their homes. The harassment is said to be both in real life as well as online. Naturally, this is proof that harassment online translates to harassment in real life and GamerGate is "an extreme example" of that. There's also a section about how the "Gamer Identity" is changing, which has been well addressed by Sargon of Akkad. Lastly there's a mention of how 80% of video game characters are white and how critique is helping change these issues.

Total war in the gaming world (Full krig i spillverden)

Original

Translation

Article referring to events as a "war" and that the hashtag GamerGate was quickly filled with "noise and conspiracy theories about detractors" which among other things has drowned debate and NotYourShield. It's set up as gamers versus developers/press throughout.

Computerspil er fyldt med superhelte - men kun få af dem er kvinder (Computer games are filled with superheros - but only a handful of them are women)

It's an article which purports that half the population of gamers are females (obviously ignoring differences between gamers) yet the main role in games is mostly occupied by a males. They highlight the game Life is Strange as an example of a case where the main character is a female, complaining that the company which created the game has been turned down several times when it was supposed to be published due to the fact that female main characters don't sell. It moves on perpetuating the myth that females are by and large getting harassed online, citing a Norwegian article (see the Kvinnelige nettspillere later som de er menn article) also mentioning GamerGate. Lastly it mentions how the industry caters to "geek culture", but seems to be undergoing a change with more focus on women wherein the "GamerGate case" is mentioned as partly causative to this positive change.
