==Role In GamerGate==

PC Gamer has taken a few misguided potshots at [[GamerGate]] activists. In an article about [[Anita Sarkeesian]]'s canceling of her speech at Utah State University, Phil Savage characterized the #GamerGate hashtag as "a noxious and confused movement that has been directly responsible for the harassment of multiple industry and media figures, the majority of which have been women."<ref>[https://archive.today/jO0RG "Anita Sarkeesian cancels talk after school shooting threat" - Phil Savage, 2014]</ref> In a weekly wrap-up article, Tim Clark described GamerGate as the most "collectively depressing" event in gaming history and attempting discussion of it is "like opening Lemarchand’s box.".<ref>[https://archive.today/xqO8R The week's highs and lows in PC Gaming - Tim Clark]</ref>

Shortly after Blizzard CEO, Mike Morhaime,'s speech at BlizzCon 2014 chastising people "doing really awful things and making some people's lives miserable," PC Gamer writer Tyler Wilde - along with many other gaming bloggers - interpreted the speech as directly addressing GamerGate activists<ref>[https://archive.today/p4vB7 "Blizzard CEO on GamerGate: 'They are tarnishing our reputations as gamers'" - Tyler Wilde (7th Nov)]</ref> despite never using the word "GamerGate". This article in particular leads with a misleading headline that is elaborated upon in the article as Morhaime addressing "the behavior most associated with it" instead of GamerGate as a whole.

===PC Master Race===
A minor controversy was started when [[Tyler Wilde]] published an article critical of PC gaming enthusiasts calling themselves the "master race",<ref>[https://archive.today/dWrVl "Let's stop calling ourselves the 'PC Master Race'" - Tyler Wilde (14th Jan 2015)]</ref> a phrase coined by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw at [[The Escapist]]. PC gamers turned it from a "dig" directed at their elitism over console gamers<ref>[http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/columns/extra-punctuation/10350-The-Glorious-PC-Gaming-Master-Race "The Glorious PC Gaming Master Race" - Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, 28th May 2013]</ref> into a symbol of pride, akin to colonial Americans and the song "Yankee Doodle". It has become so widespread that [[Reddit]]'s top PC gaming subreddit is named /r/pcmasterrace. Wilde felt that a term held in such high esteem among PC gamers should not contain Nazi imagery or callbacks, which could hurt the ability of the community to be inclusive. This was met with jeers by PC gamers and GamerGate activists, who felt it to be tone policing and political correctness run amok. ===Tyler Wilde and Ubisoft===
